Meet Rev. Y. Louise Hicks, D. Min., BCC, CPC

Reverend Y. Louise Hicks is a native of Georgia. She has lived in and out of the Metropolitan D.C. area since 1972. In 1990, she became a resident of Montgomery County.
In 1987, Reverend Hicks responded to God’s call to ministry in the African Methodist Episcopal Church. She was ordained an Itinerant Deacon in 1990 and an Itinerant Elder in 1992. On January 2, 1994, she founded New Birth A.M.E. of Rockville, MD. After twelve years
as Pastor, the Lord released her saying, “The issue is over.” Reverend Hicks served on the ministerial staff of Brown Memorial A.M.E. Church in Washington, D.C. as the Pastoral Care Minister from March 2006 - May 2008. The leading of the Holy Spirit brought her to Allen Chapel
A.M.E. in May under the fervent leadership of Rev. Dr. Baron Young. Currently, she serves at Allen under the anointed ministry of Rev. Alan Gould. Reverend Hicks is a Staff Chaplain at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, MD. She began her employment at Holy Cross in 1990.

Reverend Hicks was elected twice as the President of the Black Ministers Conference of
Montgomery County. She is the first female to serve in this capacity. During her second term
as President, Reverend Hicks and Debbie Gold of the Department of Health and Human
Services of Montgomery County started the G.O.S.P.E.L. Health initiative in Montgomery
County. G.O.S.P.E.L. stands for “Glorifying our Spiritual and Physical Existence for Life and is
taken from 3 John 2. The annual theme of the conference was “Healthy Faith/Healthy Body: In
October 2006 G.O.S.P.E.L. received a National Award at the Health Summit held in
Washington, D.C. The award was for the most innovative faith based community initiative.

Her education includes a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in mathematics and a
minor in Social Sciences from Paine College in Augusta, Georgia, and a Master of Divinity from
Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. Reverend Hicks received a Doctor of Ministry Degree at Ashland Theological Seminary in Ashland, Ohio in Formational Counseling.
In 2020 she was Certified as a Professional Coach and in 2021 she received Certification as a Disaster Recovery Coach from the Fowler International Academy of Professional Coaching.
Rev. Hicks is a clinical member of The Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc.
She is also a certified member of The Association of Professional Chaplains.

bodies is an important part of being people of faith.
